    you dont put the pre load washers on the top hat , you put them on the spring guide. Putting them on the top hat means the spring isnt well supported at that end .. and you hit things with a steel hammer , rather than a soft mallet , you are an engineering thug

    Where is the top hat? Usually delrin like the spring guide! it sits behind the seal inside the spring! It helps the spring unwind by lowering the friction as the spring flies forward! i.e. as the spring expands it also untwists !

    Glad hear someone finally mentioning the Lothar Walther barrel. That's one accurate component often not mentioned. Had a Huntsman MK2 with the L'Walther barrel and it shot the prvious pellets mark on a tree at 60yds no problem. Happy shooting and prob Robert Lane has a reg for that if you're ever looking to regulate up.

    @23:25 you use grease on the sear. At the gunsmithing course I followed, they taught me to never EVER use grease on sears, because it might cause accidental firing. This is something that I can confirm, because I made that mistake once. A tiny bit of gun oil to prevent rust is okay, but never grease the thing. That's my bit of advice as a professional gunsmith. ;-) Otherwise, great vid.

      Thanks for your comment. I never claim to be a professional. As I said in the video, this is what works for me and just for your information, the rifle featured in the making of these videos is still going strong and is just as accurate with its new owner. If you read the comments the series has also helped others understand the workings of their rifle and even given some the confidence to work on their own kit.

      @@GeordiehuntersTV First thing first: It is very well that you are a person who wants to improve things and that you are willing to share your experiences with others. Regarding the ‘tuning process’, I would have some observations: a) - the piston and the cylinder have a very well defined manufacturing process; that means honing and ultrasonic cleaning; b) - the surface roughness for the piston is obtained by vibration finishing in Röestler machinery; the surface aspect is dull, but very smooth; c) - after sandpaper ‘honing’, the surface roughness is definitely worse, but the optical aspect looks better; d) - the only critical surface of the piston is that of the polyamide cap(they could do it from graphite PTFE, which would ensure a dry lubrication also, but this would increase the costs!); the rest of the piston is just for inertial purpose; e) - the cylinder inner surface has a prescribed roughness and roundness, that you cannot obtain by hand with sandpaper; f) - after polishing the two parts, the clearance between them will be increased, and abrasive micro grains will remain there, no matter how well you will wipe the surfaces (it’s like introducing sand under your eyelids); this will lead with time to a premature wear of both surfaces and the sealing will be lost. In fact, what you are obtaining is a little better aspect, but the functionality of the system will be worse and the lifetime shorter. Does it worth the work for this?

    Thank you for the video.. I have been working on air rifles for many years. I do not understand people comparing these compression tubes and cylinders to car engines. A car piston cycles 1000s of times a minute. A air rifle is more like a syringe, A rubber stopper in a polished tube, More like a hydraulic cylinder would be a example. And yes of course the sears in the trigger are polished. But never are the contact points lubricated. I feel i am waffling on so thank you for time..

    • @cubaniton74
      @cubaniton74 8 місяців тому

      If you polish the sears, it is because you want the action to be smoother, so why not add a bit of lubrication? The only way the sears will fail, is if it's sanded out of shape; a little bit of oil will not change the shape of the sears and therefore will never make it less effective.

    Holly shiz thismshould be a vid on how not to grease a piston .spring should,have been blued on the ends ,use a silcone cloth with a few dots of moly ,whatnsize soring was put in 8"/9"/10"/11" some proper rool would also come in handy there will be burrs left fron that adjustable spanner amature at best id never send a gun to this guy bad gun cleaning skills

    • @GeordiehuntersTV
      @GeordiehuntersTV 2 роки тому

      Thanks for your comment. No one sends their gun to me, these are my own personal rifles and as I say in the videos this is what works for me. There’s no reason to blue the ends of the spring apart from aesthetics that you don’t see. Also, used properly there are no burrs left from an adjustable spanner and can be the correct tool when used properly.

  • @notmodeling8070

    Do not use wet and dry paper dry ( use oil a few drops) Dont use a old spring for internals ! Theres is no,need to polish a trigger very dangerous infact all,thatnpolishing does nothing Taking the factory blueing of the inside ofmthe gun tube no no

  • @tordamsleth7460
    @tordamsleth7460 2 роки тому

    Why polish the outside of the compression tube, I don`t understand what good that would do. And I wonder, could the inside of the compression tube be polished with a brake honing tool, these are readily avaliable fairly cheap. Do you lubricate the inside of the compression tube, or is it compleatly dry and you only lubricate the piston.

    • @GeordiehuntersTV
      @GeordiehuntersTV 2 роки тому

      Polishing any bearing surfaces reduces friction and the cocking effort. I did think about a honing tool but decided against it The only thing lubricated is a very thin layer around the piston and piston seal. Any more and it would fly forward under inertia, end up in front of the piston seal and cause dieselling 👍🏻

    • @tordamsleth7460
      @tordamsleth7460 2 роки тому

      Does the bluing inside the cylinder protect against rust, if so would it be wise to blue it again after polishing?

    • @GeordiehuntersTV
      @GeordiehuntersTV 2 роки тому

      @@tordamsleth7460 the light coat of lubricant should stop any rust forming so no need to reblue unless for aesthetic purposes

  • @ravenshield7823
    @ravenshield7823 2 роки тому

    I recently stripped my pro sport down and on the inside of the piston were perfectly visible crosshatching from being honed. I'm guess this was done by machine because it's just too symmetrical. The gun is 12 years old and not sure if manufacturing processes have changed but it got me wondering why sandpaper is used inside the tube. Instead, I used polishing cloths which shined it up and smoothed it out without removing the crosshatching. In an engine, the Crosshatching is there for a reason, and this is to collect very small amounts of oil for smooth and cool operation keeping the rings from wearing. In this case keeping the piston seal sealed and smooth. What are your thoughts on that?

    You only need to remove scratches in the chamber and feather edge the piston so when the piston is inserted it stops sliding down when holding a finger over the transfer hole, the lube needs something to grip onto if it's too polished it won't hold
